Celebrating 25 years of Our Kids The idea for Our Kids grew out of a simple, unremarkable moment: one night at the dinner table Agnes Stawicki asked, “Why do we always go to the same camp?” It was a great camp and maybe she wanted to know why her parents had chosen it. But neither had a good answer. It was the camp they had heard about, so we went. But it was a good question. The value that camps offered was clear, and her parents saw it in her after just one summer. But it’s a big world. How many camps are there out there? What kinds of programming did they offer? What were we missing? And so it began. Andrew and Margaret Stawicki created Our Kids to offer a platform for families that would answer those questions. They also wanted to allow more parents to realize how great camp was, and to give them easy ways to learn about the options available. We’re just now putting the finishing touches on the annual guide, which will be going to print at the end of this month. It’s a milestone: the 25th guide, the 25th year. Which sounds like a lot, and in many ways it is. The guide is our biggest issue yet, with an expanded editorial section in addition to the listings. The theme, called out on the cover, is “Time to grow, time to learn, time to lead.” That’s true every year, though especially this one, as more programs, fingers crossed, will be able to get back to full, undistanced offerings. So, while the year, in some senses, has gotten off to a rocky start, there’s ample reason to believe that it won’t continue that way. Families will be looking to start back at familiar activities, and to start new ones. In print and online, we’ll help them find you. Here’s to the next 25 years. In other news ...
